Synergia – Helping therapists promote cooperative problem solving through play
How can a video game help therapists facilitate cooperative problem solving between children and their parents?
Game Design
Synergia is an adventure game designed to help therapists open channels of communication and facilitate cooperative problem solving between children and their parents. Through research-based gameplay, Synergia introduces concepts that can help children express themselves verbally in therapy. Furthermore, by switching roles in the game, children and parents can gain new perspectives through better understanding how their words and actions affect each other. A stop-motion world gives Synergia uniquely playful aesthetics, conducive to feelings of comfort and openness to communication. Following gameplay, children may continue cooperative problem solving by playing with 3D-printed Synergia character dolls.
