zTool — A D.I.Y inclusive approach
How to implement good postural habits among design school students?
Posture issues and related chronic pain are widespread contemporary problems. Commercial seating devices do not respond adequately to the complexity of the subject, and tend to constraint users into standardized postures.
zTool offers a broader approach, by giving users the opportunity to raise their level of awareness about posture, both intellectually and through direct physical experience. Providing them with background knowledge, and involving future users early in the building process of their customised stool, creates a stronger bond with both the end-product, and its underlying concepts. This also ensures users are in charge and not entirely dependent on the product’s design, allowing them to improve their posture on their own terms.
