HARASS(her)
How to raise awareness of street harassment and provide an educational tool about it?
Street harassment is a common form of sexual harassment committed by strangers in public places. But despite its frequency, it remains an under-researched topic.
This installation provides a dystopian playground revolving around sexism, in which the public is invited to discover stereotypes and harassment examples in the context of a kindergarten. Specifically, the installation consists of four commercial toys, which were re-designed to reflect either stereotypically feminine role models or stereotypes of harassing male behaviour. By using these interactive toys as a critical tool, this project exposes the influence of gender-specific education on behaviours and attitudes, which can ultimately lead to bigger issues such as street or sexual harassment.
